Autumn is here and time has come for the third edition of Stripolisfest mini comic strip festival. This year, the festival programme, featuring even more international guests, exhibitions and events, will be extended over four days and several venues in Ljubljana.

Festival gatherings are due to begin on Wednesday 7 October at 8 pm in DLUL Gallery (Breg 22, LJ), hosting a solo exhibition of graphic works by Olaf Ladousse, author of French roots living in Madrid, this year’s guest of Stripburger Magazine. For the opening reception, Olaf is preparing a musical performance using unique instruments made of discarded electronic toys by himself and his partner Carmen Espina.

On Thursday 8 October at 8 pm, the festival programme continues with the second grand auction of original comic strip art by Slovenian masters in the Striparna shop in Pritličje, a bar located beside the City Hall (Mestni trg 2, LJ.). Later in the evening, foreign and Slovenian comic strip artists will be drawing on windowpanes at the venue while the DJ is playing live music.

On Friday 9 October, same place, same time, the evening programme will begin with the opening reception for the exhibition of works by legendary pioneer of Slovenian underground comic strip, Kostja Gatnik. From 10 pm onwards, the party will continue into the night in the company of Pritličje resident DJ’s.

On Saturday 10 October, at 2 pm, early as always, we are finally launching the annual grand comic strip bazaar in front of Kino Šiška, hosting Slovenian comic strip publishers and vendors of second hand items. Between 3 and 7 pm, the bazaar will serve as the background to presentations of latest releases and talks with Slovenian authors as hosted by Pia Nikolić.

In the late afternoon, at 5 pm, Izar Lunaček is hosting a talk with the first festival guest of honour, Darko Macan – a case-hardened draughtsman, writer and an activist comic strip all-rounder, based in Zagreb, who was once writing awarded comic strip scripts for the Americans, and is now targeting the French market in a collaboration with Igor Kordej, producing an insanely intelligent and critically lauded series on psychologised zombies, We, The Dead.

The traditional Stripolis evening slot at 8 pm in Komuna Hall will be taken up by Iztok Sitar interviewing Nina Bunjevac, Canadian comic strip author of Serbian origin, a rising star on the international comic strip scene. She has recently captured global attention with her graphic novel Fatherland, in which she faces the legacy of her extremist father, who died while developing a bomb to attack the Yugoslav embassy in Canada. Her book was recently published in Slovenian on the Modrijan publishing house, who are also organising the event in cooperation with Stripolis.

After a long day, the official programme will conclude with the relaxing performance of the excellent Slovenian swing band Počeni škafi, whose covers of New Orleans classics will make you want to dance.

Admission to all Stripolisfest events is free of charge.
Organised by: Kino Šiška.

Co-organised by: Zavod Stripolis, Stripburger/Forum Ljubljana, Pritličje, Modrijan publishing house.
