Still Corners

+ Papercuts

One of 2019’s undisputed concert highlights, Still Corners, are bringing their desert noir sound back to Ljubljana with a brand new album! Back then, the American synth pop duo easily sold out our large hall, so we advise you don’t wait too long to get your ticket – especially after the concert drought of the past year.

On their fifth album The Last Exit, released in January 2021, American duo Still Corners take us on a hypnotic journey across the wastes of the American West, full of dilapidated settlements, mysterious shapes on the horizon and endless landscapes. The eleven new songs are spearheaded by the titular first single, with which the band is rounding off its “Road Trilogy”, previously represented by the hit songs “The Trip” and “The Message”. And as befits the times, the new album of course also represents the band’s musical response to lockdown times.

The formation of Still Corners is the result of a random meeting between Greg Hughes and Tessa Murray at a London train station in 2009. Their very first – instantly sold-out – singles drew the attention of the famous Sub Pop Records. Their successful debut Creatures of an Hour was followed by Strange Pleasures, which firmly established the duo’s blend of Vangelis’s boldness, Ennio Morricone‘s cinematic soundscapes, and the glamorous synth pop of the 1980s. The breakthrough album also included the hits “The Trip” and “Fireflies”, named Best New Track by Pitchfork. They followed the album up with Dead Blue, the best dream pop record of 2016 according to The Line of Best Fit, then Slow Air in 2018. As a result of moving to Texas, the pair’s sound was suffused in the shimmering heat of the American West, with the desert noir leaving its mark on their latest release as well. Still Corners will again charm us with it in October.

Still Corners will be preceded by Jason Quever, who has been creating timeless guitar pop as Papercuts for almost 20 years, regardless of current trends or micro-genres that come and go. His dedication to songcraft has been noticed by and yielded collaboration with Dean Wareham (Galaxie 500) and Beach House, among others, and his new album will be released a few weeks before his visit to Šiška. Past Life Regression embarks on a journey into the dreamy expanses of psychedelic American folk pop under a wide range of influences, such as Leonard Cohen, Spiritualized and Echo & The Bunnymen. It was announced by the upbeat “I Want My Jacket Back”.
