The international music collective Tututu Orchestra is returning to Slovenia after last year’s performance at the Ljubljana Jazz Festival! At Kino Šiška, they’ll prepare a special concert where participants of the accompanying music workshop will also join them on stage.

Based in the Netherlands, Tututu Orchestra is a dynamic ensemble of musicians drawing inspiration from jazz, impressionism, and diverse musical traditions from around the world. What sets the orchestra apart is its use of compositional fragments as the driving force behind guided improvisation. Striving to merge the resonant power of an orchestral sound with the fluidity of a smaller combo, the performance highlights the interplay between the orchestra and the conductor, at times bursting with theatrical expressionism.

At the heart of the ensemble are international musicians whose paths have been intertwined since their shared music studies, with performances gracing stages such as b-flat in Berlin and the Grand Theatre in Groningen. The close camaraderie among the orchestra’s members infuses their musical expression with a sense of ease, lending their performances a playful and familiar quality.

Conducted by Mojca Zupančič, the orchestra delivers a rich repertoire filled with magical melodies, driving rhythms, and imaginatively arranged passages. At times, however, the orchestra breaks free, shattering the chains of structure and leaving the conductor to simply navigate the sonic rapids.

This concert will be a special one, as participants of the pre-concert workshop will also join the musicians on stage. During the workshop, they will explore the orchestra’s dynamics through conducting gestures, experiment with techniques of graphic notation, and learn the fundamentals of improvisation.

Mojca Zupančič (1995) is a pianist, composer, and intermedia artist. She performs in numerous ensembles (tisa&mojca, VIRA, Karmakoma …), working primarily with keyboard instruments and synthesisers as her main medium of expression. In her personal practice, she explores sound textures, the relationships between instruments, improvisation and composition, and leads as well as conducts the international collective Tututu Orchestra. She is fascinated by the interplay between image and sound, which she investigates through the development of generative, audio-reactive visuals. In Ljubljana, she earned her degree in Multimedia Studies at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, and in 2023 she completed her studies in jazz piano at the conservatory in Groningen, the Netherlands.

Tickets on sale online and at Eventim outlets.

Organisation: Mojca Zupančič in cooperation with Kino Šiška.
