Nikola Kekerović: Hardcore Thesis

curatorial series

The Hardcore Thesis theme comes from Nikola’s knowledge of the attitudes of hardcore punk music, as well as further research on topics where this elusive term (hardcore) plays a role, while reflecting on his own artistic practice.

Today, more than ever, shaping the public space can and should be done through simple performative deeds, as in the performance in which he used his voice and mobile phone recordings to express opinions regarding the crafting of attitudes along with environments, suitable for riot, refining critical thinking and breaking rules in the same measure.

Nikola Kekerović (1991, Banja Luka) is a former semi-professional handball player. He graduated from the Painting at the Academy of Arts, University of Banja Luka. He is a co-founder and member of the Apartman project for the popularization of contemporary art in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with which he worked shortly in the country and the broader region. In 2014, he received an award for Best Works in Intermedia Research at the annual final exhibition of the Academy of Arts, as well as for Best Young Video Artist in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the 6th namaTre.ba project/biennial in association with KulturKontakt Austria and the Austrian Federal Agency. In 2016, he enrolled in the MA Painting program at the Academy of Arts, then was accepted to MA Public Art and New Artistic Strategies program at the BAUHAUS University in Weimar in 2017, and moved to Germany. In Weimar, he received the Born to be Bauhaus Award. After graduating, he moved to Berlin.
