Iza Pavlina: Confidential Waste

curatorial series

In her work, visual artist Iza Pavlina creates fictitious identities, using them to enter various situations and thus explore certain socio-economic systems and power relations, and the occurrence of social anomalies within them. The Confidential Waste project is the result of collecting and arranging wastepaper snippets from local banks, subtly emphasising the dangers of personal data misuse and questioning the safety of (online) activity.

Iza Pavlina (1991) concluded postgraduate studies of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana in 2017, having received an award for special achievements there in 2015 has been featured in the solo exhibitions Talk to Strangers (Račka Gallery of Erotic Art, Celje, 2014), Isabelle Peacocks (Gallery of Contemporary Art Celje, 2016), Pravilo 34 (Aksioma Project Space, Ljubljana, 2017) and Rule 34 (Drugo More, Rijeka, 2018). Her works have been featured in various group exhibitions, such as To ni ljubezenska pesem (Miklova Hiša Gallery, Ribnica, 2014), Festival Fotopub (Simulaker Gallery, Novo Mesto, 2015), Mediterranea 17: Young Artists Biennial (Fabbrica del Vapore, Milano, 2015), Od skupnosti do raja (Gallery of Contemporary Art Celje, 2017), “Hej, me v redu slišiš?” (UGM Studio, Maribor, 2018) and 9. trienale sodobne umetnosti U3: Živo in mrtvo (Museum of Modern Art, Ljubljana, 2019).
