In May, we’ll be hit by a double dose of sonic radiation of cosmic proportions. Extra-terrestrials Henge, one of the best live acts in the known universe, are bringing their “cosmic dross” to Šiška for a night of rave-inflected prog rock fun. They’ll be joined by nemanja, one of the most promising young acts in the region, who forges the sound of disco futures from the treasures of the past.

Their music escapes definition, but occupies a space between rave and prog rock that nobody knew existed. It is energetic, subversive and invigoratingly playful, jovially going to psychedelic plains “where no one has gone before”. Ultimately, Henge are spreading a message of hope which leaves audiences feeling amused and uplifted in equal measures.
The aliens will be joined by nemanja, the acclaimed project of the Croat Luka Šipetić, who we’ve met before at the MENT Ljubljana festival and supporting Kikagaku Moyo, accompanied by a full band and visuals. The instrumental album Tarot Funk, released in 2019, with which Šipetić paid tribute to Thai funk, Afrofunk, Anatolian rock from the 1970s and Cambodian psychedelia from the 1960s, quickly spread around the global blogosphere. It was featured in the Bandcamp Weekly section, which promotes new musical talent on Bandcamp’s homepage, and charted among the best records of the year all around Europe.
Its successor Cosmic Disco, focused on 1970s disco, cumbia, Yugoslavian funk, Afrobeat and Lebanese disco, expanded on the success and again received positive reviews from both audiences and critics – including being featured in one of the world’s most respected music magazines, the British Songlines. Taking elements of the past to shape the sound of the future, nemanja’s music is sure to make you dance.
