Piano Day 2019

HANIA RANI

At the traditional celebration of the Piano Day holiday of contemporary piano music, initiated by Nils Frahm, we’ve previously hosted Greg Haines, Peter Broderick, Bowrain and Rok Zalokar. This year, we’ll be joined by the young Polish artist Hania Rani, who has warmed up for Ólafur Arnalds. She’ll release her debut album just a few days after coming to Šiška.

Pianist, musician and composer Hania Rani finds inspiration for her solo compositions in Iceland’s landscapes and Poland’s mountains, but above all in her fascination with the piano as an instrument. One of the songs on her debut album Esja, which will be released in April via Gondwana Records, came to be after she saw Ólafur Arnalds’ grand piano in his studio in Reykjavik.

The young artists is regarded as one of the most promising names in contemporary piano music and has performed at prestigious venues such as Funkhaus in Berlin and The Roundhouse in London, as well as the Open’er, OFF and Eurosonic festivals. In Šiška she’ll help observe the globally renowned Piano Day, initiated by Nils Frahm and supported by Ólafur Arnalds, Chet Faker and Four Tet. Šiška will be celebrating Piano Day together with KUD Kataman for the fourth year in a row.
