Godspeed You! Black Emperor I SOLD OUT

+ X.U.L

Legendary post-rock ensemble Godspeed You! Black Emperor is returning to Kino Šiška, promising an immersive experience that transcends mere musical performance. Since their last visit in 2019, they’ve released new material, including some of their best work to date.

FOR FANS OF: Swans, Roadburn Festival, God Is an Astronaut …

Godspeed You! Black Emperor is an iconic Canadian post-rock band that emerged from Montreal in 1994. They’re known for their cinematic soundscapes that weave together rock instrumentation with orchestral and experimental elements, creating a powerful form of protest music. Their live shows are legendary, distinguished by the use of 16mm film projectors to cast a collage of film loops and reels, enhancing the band’s complex, emotive music with a unique visual dimension.

The band gained significant acclaim after the release of their debut album F A ∞ in 1997, while their 2000 album Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven is considered a milestone. Lauded as one of the best albums of the 2000s, it established their status as highly influential forces within the post-rock genre. Meanwhile, the epic compositions found on the latest album, 2021’s G_d’s Pee at State’s End!, confirmed that even after a quarter of a century, the band remains as vital, stirring and implacable as ever before.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s discography is a testament to their continuous evolution, marked by albums that redefine the boundaries of instrumental music. Their compositions, often long-form and deeply textured, serve as poignant commentaries on societal issues, echoing sentiments of alienation and resistance against the backdrop of late capitalism. We’ve had the privilege of experiencing their transcendental live show multiple times in a packed Katedrala Hall, and we’re eagerly awaiting their return in April 2024, complete with new material.

X.U.L is the project of Slovenian musician and composer Gašper Selko, who builds and develops a varied musical expression under the influence of a wide range of genres, from modern classical music to ambient electronic music. The prolific author, who has released three albums in four years, uses repetitive, minimalist patterns to craft soothing, hypnotic music that has drawn comparisons to artists such as Ólafur Arnalds, Max Richter and Boards of Canada. X.U.L has performed at regional festivals such as SHIP and MENT, where he won the praise of the respected blog Louder Than War with his Lynchian atmosphere, and new material is already on the way.
