At the invitation of Flying Lotus’s management, we’re joining Mixcloud in promoting the live stream of the unique futuristic audio-visual spectacle by one of the most original and influential musical geniuses of the 21st century, who’ll be accompanied by some of the most intriguing protégés of his acclaimed label Brainfeeder.
It’s no overstatement to say that it would be hard to imagine the contemporary music landscape without Steven Ellison aka Flying Lotus. As an incredibly imaginative musician and producer, he has created his own universe of Afrofuturism, psychedelia, hip-hop, jazz and IDM, defining it on six studio albums, such as Cosmogramma and You’re Dead!, regularly featured on best-of lists. As guest or host, he’s expanded his surrealist musical ideas among a broad array of some of the most highly regarded artists today, such as Kendrick Lamar, Anderson .Paak, Thom Yorke, Thundercat, MF Doom, David Lynch, Battles, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Erykah Badu, Odd Future, Herbie Hancock… As the founder of one of the most acclaimed indie labels in Los Angeles, Brainfeeder, he regularly ensures the dissemination of intriguing new music expressions among younger generations – the label’s protégés include Kamasi Washington, Jaga Jazzist, Iglooghost, Ross from Friends and Tokimonsta. As a director (Kuso) and soundtrack author (Grand Theft Auto V, Adventure Time, Blade Runner Black Out 2022…), he’s presented his vision in other media, and if all else fails, he can resort to his rap alter ego of Captain Murphy.
In short, FlyLo’s art doesn’t concern itself with limits, commandments and capabilities, an especially welcome credo in 2020 conditions. A livestream performance opens a world of possibilities for the chameleonic artist, who always finds surprising, psychedelic methods of pulling viewers, both live and digitally, under his spell, making this an event that is not to be missed. He’ll be accompanied by some of the most intriguing Brainfeeder protégés right now: Brandon Coleman, Teebs and Salami Rose Joe Louis.
