DESTROYER I CANCELLED

concert

Indie rock eminence Destroyer, who is considered one of the most important bands of the new millennium thanks to the classic album Kaputt, is coming for an exclusive performance in our region. On their first visit to Slovenia, under the guidance of musical genius Dan Bejar, the band will also present material from their upcoming new album.

The event is unfortunately cancelled. Refund are possible via Eventim.

The Canadian project Destroyer is hard to accurately describe or capture in a sentence or two. After all, the fundamental driving force of founder and leader Dan Bejar, also a member of The New Pornographers, have always been diversity, approaching each release from scratch, and the dynamic exploration of one’s own musical expression without the burden of the past. But a few constants have nonetheless taken shape over the three decades of Destroyer’s existence. For example, whether as the initial solo project, a duo or a larger band, Bejar, a special kind of musical genius who is not afraid of the unknown, is always there. Furthermore, in terms of genre, Destroyer’s music can be placed in the broad field of indie rock, even if it draws on the jazz of Miles Davis one time and on the trip hop of Massive Attack another. And third, if you’re looking for candidates for album of the year, Destroyer are definitely a safe bet. Their releases, including 2020’s Have We Met, regularly appear on the end-of-the-year best-of lists by media such as Pitchfork, The Guardian and Stereogum, and 2011’s Kaputt is considered not only a classic of the genre, but one of the best records of the decade. Taken together, it is clear that Bejar and his Destroyer are unpredictable, excellent and reliable – true eminences of contemporary music.

After the success of Have We Met, Bejar quickly returned to work in the middle of the pandemic, and in March this year we can look forward to Destroyer’s thirteenth album Labyrinthitis, on which he again reunited with long-time collaborator John Collins. This time, they looked for starting points on disco dance floors and bands such as New Order and Art of Noise, and they’re promising an album full of mystical, intoxicating landscapes. Given their history, it’s hard to predict where this took them, but we’re definitely looking forward to the opportunity to find the answers live at Destroyer’s only performance in our region.
