The Slovenian band of seasoned musicians Bakalina Velika, who lead us from cavernous depths to mountaintop pastures with their treasured, meaningful songs under the guidance of farmer-poet Jani Kutin, will present their new album Zviezdna srebruo in Šiška.
Since its very beginnings as the Bakalina duo of artistic director, lyricist and singer Jani Kutin and accordionist Renata Lapanja, Bakalina Velika is considered a band with an incredible feeling for original musical narratives and an unusual approach to traditional musical instruments and folk music. The expansion of the group with virtuoso musicians Samo Kutin, Dejan Lapanja, Matej Magajna, Marjan Stanić and Andrea Pandolfo and the well-received album Prvi krajec, presented at the Druga Godba festival, among other places, drew the attention of the popular channel La Blogothèque, which selected Bakalina Velika as one of the ensembles representing Slovenia.
The new album Zviezdna srebruo is Bakalina’s first without Renata, however, the remaining members managed to retain all the depth, breadth and intensity of the band’s musical expression. The songs written by Jani Kutin are shockingly expressive, spiritual, intimate and very meaningful. He serves up the darkest topics of life, the ones people prefer to avoid, but he does not leave us without consolation in the dark night. The musicians support the lyrics very emotionally and with a carefully selected array of instruments, taking us to the worlds where the songs come to life – on a snowy mountain, in a cave, by a river, among the trees, on mountain pastures, in the ruins of an old church and in April in Šiška.

This is why people look to the stars and seek answers to the questions we can only answer ourselves, when we are the most honest with ourselves. Bakalina Velika did just that with this album, she looked inside herself and found Zviezdna srebruo there. “
