Ana Janež: Do You Hear You Hear Nothing?

exhibition

In February, Ana Janež will present her solo exhibition at the DobraVaga Gallery.

Through themes of fragility and instability, nostalgia and the future, moment and duration, the artist reflects on how, in an amorphous image of an abstract pattern, meaning is established in a paradox with the image’s indeterminacy. At the exhibition titled Do You Hear You Hear Nothing? she thus presents a series of paintings and drawings in which she explores the question of meaning, emptiness and superficiality. At first glance, the saturated and precise drawing seems abstract, but through the process in which the artist transfers digital records to analog and vice versa, structures and images that hint at something that cannot be fully defined are created.

Ana Janež (1997) graduated in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (ALUO) in 2020, where she is currently completing her master’s degree. Painting is a major part of her work, which also includes digital collages, photography and installations. So far, she has been featured in several group exhibitions, including at the DLUL, Equrna, Pentagonal Tower, KUD CSK (all Ljubljana) and DLUM (Maribor) galleries. For the latter, she received the Primavera Charter in 2021. She is also the recipient of an ALUO Award for her work in 2020/21.
