Radio Študent proudly presents TRESK: A Clash of Music and Record Labels. This year’s event will mark the sixth edition of the festival and will take place on Thursday March 19 at Pritličje and on Friday March 20 at Kino Šiška.
TRESK is a festival that supports creative and diverse musical production and independent labels. It also sheds light on the visual aspects of musical production and encourages new forms of music. Spread out over several days, the festival features a wealth of interesting artists, a record fair, talks with label heads, fresh music from independent labels, an exhibition featuring the winning entries in a contest for music-related visual works, debates, various workshops and, last but not least, plenty of opportunities to network and socialize.
On Friday afternoon, Kino Šiška will open its doors for the festival’s traditional record and promotional fair. A number of Slovenian labels are expected to attend, including some of the larger labels that are active in Slovenia and some interesting guests from abroad. The focus will be on presenting the labels and their activities and the music put out by their artists. Other events planned in the framework of the record fair include a round table, discussions about running a label, a counter with a sound system where labels can present their music, a listening area and an area where guests can chill and socialize.
The events at Kino Šiška will also include performances from five artists: Salonski, High5 and Matter and solo performances by 12 and Marko Karlovčec. Though they represent different parts of the sonic spectrum, all these artists share a strong creative drive and are known for their highly recognizable and unique sounds.
Miha Robida, a.k.a. 12, is a modern troubadour who proves that high-caliber hypnogogic pop is no stranger to Slovenian bedrooms.
Guided by the compositions of Domen Finžgar, the six members of Salonski cover a number of traditions in their music. Their performance at TRESK will mark the Ljubljana debut of their new album, Eden.
Marko Karlovčec is a multi-instrumentalist and master of modern free improvisation with a predilection for sonic experimentation. At the festival he will present an electro-acoustic mélange featuring a saxophone and a controlled feedback loop.
High5, a gang of five off-the-wall MCs from Zagreb, cleverly juggles a broad repertoire of essential sounds from hip hop’s past and present.
Matter is a trio of young people from Kamnik whose work takes place at the nexus of production and vocals. Their performance will feature an exclusive live set which they will be publicly performing for the first time.
You are cordially invited to attend!
