Dislocated Unit: Kosovel is a 55-minute constructivist film hybrid emerging from a system of systems – open, personal, and unpredictable. It transitions between documentary, staged, and experimental material, seeking the moment where life occurs before form takes hold.

The film was largely created within the costume archives of RTV Slovenia, where space, student work, and the poetry of Srečko Kosovel merge into a single rhythm. It was developed as a process that bypassed traditional film production logic, evolving instead from the immediacy of the moment and a relationship with space, people, and material that shaped the film’s structure in real-time. Dislocated Unit doesn’t tell a story in the classic sense; it is time gathered into a form where discipline meets decay, document meets staging, and the system becomes a personal logic for viewing the world.

At the film’s core is also the relationship with Kosovel – not as an illustration of his poetry, but as an echo of his thought: construction, deconstruction, rhythm, and the tension between order and chaos. The film functions like a musical score, where individual elements assemble into a counterpoint between body, space, and text.

The evening begins with a live interpretation of Kosovel’s poetry by an actor with piano accompaniment, serving as an introduction to a cinematic world where words translate into movement and sound. This is followed by the film screening and a discussion about the creative process, which was itself a method, a research project, and a way of working.

Participants in the discussion include the film’s author, Margareta Kržič, the lead performer, Maša Macedoni, and moderator Gašper Stražišar. The conversation will explore the creation of film outside conventional production frameworks, the role of the subject in the process, and how cinematic form is born from a self-establishing system.
