The barefoot prince of the accordion will perform in Slovenia for the first time, joined by masters of the French touch, with his impressive jazz-pop take on the long-running project Living Being.
FOR FANS OF: Richard Galliano, Marko Hatlak, Ibrahim Maalouf …
If one were to draw comparisons, it would be fair to say that Vincent Peirani is to the accordion what Ibrahim Maalouf is to the trumpet. Their careers follow remarkably similar paths to success. Like Maalouf, Peirani first completed classical studies at the Paris Conservatory before taking up the accordion and pursuing further studies in jazz and his instrument. He too has received numerous international awards, including the Victoires du Jazz for Revelation of the Year in 2014 and Artist of the Year in 2015. Those were also the years he founded the Living Being project, which has been built around a quintet for a decade, with his right-hand man being the extraordinary soprano saxophonist Émile Parisien – Peirani’s comrade in several other ventures as well.
Now, at 45, the prince of the accordion, with ten albums as leader or co-leader and around thirty more in collaboration with artists such as Belgian pop icon Stromae, is stepping into the spotlight once occupied by masters like Richard Galliano and Michel Portal. His latest release, Living Being IV, reflects his cosmopolitan outlook on music and his keen sense for instrumental interplay – a world where everything is written down, yet the music bursts into life through the band’s improvisations.
Peirani also composes music for film, for example for Barbara by Mathieu Amalric. His musical charisma, creative talent, and unique artistic approach stem from a remarkably open attitude that immediately captivates listeners and fills concert halls across Europe. When the French crew visits Šiška, we can expect an audiovisual spectacle that draws from the very heart of jazz as a prototype of contemporary artistic pop music, both for today and for the days to come. Heading out, whistling melodies from a jazz concert long into the night, is a given.
