Upon his return to Šiška, Slovenian percussion master Zlatko Kaučič will present his latest release, on which musicians from three formations of his Kombo ensembles hold up a mirror to today’s times through improvisation and melody.
The highly regarded Slovenian percussionist Zlatko Kaučič is known for numerous albums and bands, having played with world-famous musicians such as Steve Lacy, Alexander Balanescu, Evan Parker, Peter Brötzmann, Paul Bley, Kenny Wheeler, Paul McCandless, etc. The recipient of the Prešeren Fund Award in 2011, during his career he recorded dozens of well-received albums embedded in free-spirited jazz improvisation. Kaučič is also known for his music school, where a number of prominent Slovenian musicians have been trained, and he also received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his mentoring.
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the cultural and artistic association KUD Zvočni Izviri, Kaučič, as its artistic director, prepared a special album, Objemi. As the latest in a series of releases by Kaučič’s ensembles (Kombos), it weaves together various aspects of his many years of work. The record brings together members of the Kombo A, B and C formations and guests. The musicians venture into the expanded musical fields of interplay, coloristics and sound matching between improvisation and melody, while presenting a reflection of the times in which we live.
