ZLATKO KAUČIČ KOMBO: THE BRAVERY OF THE BRAVE

new album release

Slovenian percussion magician Zlatko Kaučič will present his new album, The Bravery of the Brave, with an eleven-member ensemble in Ljubljana for the first time. The suite is dedicated to strong people with exceptional will in difficult times, and was chosen by journalists as the best project of the Jazz & Wine festival.

The Bravery of the Brave is a musical suite by renowned Slovenian percussionist Zlatko Kaučič, dedicated to people who, despite obstacles, show extraordinary will and strength to oppose them – people like Julian Assange, Black Lives Matter activists, medical staff during the Covid-19 epidemic, Greta Thunberg … The suite was premiered at last year’s Jazz Cerkno festival, and at the Jazz & Wine festival it was chosen by journalists as the best project of the festival. This time it will be played live for the first time in Ljubljana with an eleven-member ensemble, which includes eight of Kaučič’s students from his Kombos B and C and a brass section with three renowned Italian guests.

Zlatko Kaučič is well-known for his numerous albums and ensembles in which he has played with world-famous musicians such as Steve Lacy, Alexander Balanescu, Evan Parker, Peter Brötzmann, Paul Bley, Kenny Wheeler, Ab Baars, Paul McCandless, etc. In 2011, he received the Prešeren Fund Award, the highest recognition for cultural achievements in Slovenia. He has recorded over 55 albums, which have gained notable critical acclaim. He is currently based in Slovenia, where he also runs his music school and has taught a number of influential Slovenian musicians, receiving the Republic of Slovenia Public Fund for Cultural Activities life achievement award for his pedagogical work.

“Vital and genuine music where even imperfections and smudges combine to express meaning. Political music not only because it declares belonging and differences but because it proposes a social, participatory and community practice.” (Flavio Masarutto, Il Manifesto)
