ZINE VITRINE: Vita Weisseisen: I’m Just an Average Runner

exhibition at the 6th anniversary of the DobraVaga Gallery

I’m Just an Average Runner is a sequel to the zine Running Diary, which features a flow of consciousness during and after running, with the title also referring to the short film I’m Just an Average Slovenian. In it, the author claims that her desires, which she often calls needs, are not far from the average expectations in Slovenian society.

But her works subtly hint that her desires mean something more to her and are not just material; they are intertwined with the sentimental and the spiritual. A garden and a forest are two things that have accompanied the author since childhood and have also been appearing as themes in her work for some time now. The photos, drawings and texts tell a story of dreaming about being alone in the safety of home and nature, with the story often shifting the line between real and utopian.

Vita Eva Weisseisen is a student at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana. From 2017 to 2022, she was a member and cofounder of the Podmladek collective. She has participated in various group exhibitions, such as AppointMENT and Fresh Fish: Drawing at the DobraVaga Gallery. She has held exhibitions at Švicarija with the Blagor collective and at Mini Teater, the Škuc Gallery and the Soteska bar with the Podmladek collective. In her works, she focuses on her current interests (music, film, pop culture and literature), which she connects to her personal experiences. She often links her drawings with texts, thus creating a sort of diary, without being limited by technique.
