ZINE VITRINE: Jovana Ćubović: Kobrovaća Five

exhibition

free entry

Kobrovaća Five explores the topic of post-digital print using the online platform arena as one of the main tools.

It starts with the mystery of a lost key, followed by illustrations inspired by their history as well as the artist’s personal memories. Visitors to the exhibition are invited to participate in the process of reshaping the life of a zine after it’s been printed. The zine focuses on keys as symbols for collections and archives, but it is also shaped as an introduction to finding the locks that these keys are opening. The “after-life” of this publication is dedicated to key keepers who can help solve the mystery by sharing their ideas of what could be hiding behind locked doors.

Jovana Ćubović (1995, Serbia) lives in Linz, Austria, where she is studying Painting and Graphic Art at the University of Art and Design. Traditional printmaking techniques and drawing, as well as playing with different forms of books, have led her to discover the Language of Flies, an imaginary language for insects that she continues to use in later work. Since 2020, she has been a member of Potato Publishing, an artist collective from Linz that focuses on self-publishing and offers an open riso printing workshop and an open zine library. She is currently working on her thesis exhibition and the publishing project Kobrovača (Kobraschnaps), which includes research on post-digital print and differences and similarities between artists’ books and zines.
