The zine titled The Tavern by the Palm Tree displays the offer of a friendly inn in a remote place, where everyone is invited to try the delicious dishes and delicacies on offer.
The author was inspired by a game from her childhood, when she and her brothers played “tavern”, brought all the food and drinks from the fridge and cellar to the front of the house, and invited the neighbours to a feast. The visual image of the zine is inspired by various village taverns and remote inns, simultaneously paying tribute to them, as the author often misses their unique character in the era of new, minimalist and prestigious bars.
Ester Ivakič (1992) is a film director and visual artist. She graduated from the School of Arts in Nova Gorica, and continued her master’s degree in film directing at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television of the University of Ljubljana. She is the author of several experimental films, videos and various digital arts, and is currently developing her debut feature film “Neither Voice”.
A mixture of humor and nostalgia, The Tavern by the Palm Tree is the menu of a fun tavern where anything is possible!
