The exhibition Final Borders? marks the concluding stage of a three-year Erasmus+ project (2022–2025), in which three generations of students from three art schools – Ljubljana (SI), Cluj (RO), and Liège (BE) – reflected on borders and border states, while also exploring the possibilities of transcending the binary oppositions that define them.
Can borders ever truly be final, or are they constantly in flux – being reshaped, crossed, and renegotiated? What do borders define, what happens beyond them, and what occurs at their edges? Are the borders within us more persistent than those outside?
Each year, students responded to these and similar questions through the medium of photography, beginning with a virtual component and continuing with an intensive week-long workshop in a new, unfamiliar setting. The displayed photo books are the result of this year’s international workshop held in Pacug (SI).
