Two sculptures stand like small guardians of the entrance. In the past, they would have signalled wealth, later kitsch, and today they simply occupy the role of keepers of the threshold.
The door between them establishes a third element, a kind of space into which visitors step with their expectations, doubts, and desire for explanation. Even though art cannot be explained with words. This is not a final or dogmatic statement, but rather a reminder of the feeling of anxiety that arises when you have to justify your work. When aesthetic decisions are placed under a microscope, caught in a system of frameworks, expectations, and assigned meanings. It seems that explanation itself is what threatens to take away the starting point of the work – its powerlessness, fragility, vulnerability.
Isidora Todorić is an intermedia artist. In 2020, she completed her undergraduate studies in Video, Animation, and New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana. She went on to finish her postgraduate studies in Sculpture at the same institution in 2024. She has exhibited both solo and in group shows at the Alkatraz Gallery, DobraVaga, Mala galerija Banke Slovenije, P74, the Ravne Gallery, and elsewhere.
