At the summer book club, we’ll read selected excerpts from the book The Future of Nostalgia by the Russian-American author Svetlana Boym.
In her work, the cultural theorist, writer, and artist explores nostalgia, differentiating between restorative and reflective nostalgia. She examines the sense of homesickness that arises in the modern world, concepts of utopia and kitsch, and memory. She is also the author of the “off-modern” concept, which offers a detour from linear temporality.
The workshop will be led by Olja Simčič Jerele and Lucija Klauž, founders of the Tudi Book Club. The Tudi Book Club is a space for collective reading and critical discussion of theory in an accessible and relaxed way. It’s intended for anyone interested in contemporary art who finds theoretical texts difficult to approach on their own.
The workshop is free of charge. You can take part even if you haven’t read the book, as we’ll read selected excerpts together.
