TINTA 2022 | COMICS FAIR

a whole day's fair of publishers, comics artists and comics fans

The traditional Saturday comics fair at Kino Šiška will offer a wide range of issues by local comics publishers, comics stores and vendors of second-hand classics, while the varied accompanying events will include lectures, presentations, talks with local authors and foreign guests, and much more. The fair day will end at 8 PM with the awarding of the Stripolis Zlatirepec Awards for the best original and translated comic editions of 2021, as well as a drawn concert.

HILDA AND THE BIRD PARADE

storytelling event and workshop for children (5+)

Accompanied by children and Boštjan Gorenc – Pižama, comic book heroine Hilda gets to know her new home in Trollberg, which is full of wonderful surprises and magical creatures. Every year they hold a mysterious bird parade there, and there’s also something gigantic waiting for you! The event will be followed by a workshop, where illustrator and comics artist Ivan Mitrevski will show us how to make magical monster masks.  Apply for the workshop: prijava@divjamisel.org

GAŠPER KRAJNC

Slovenian comics artist and illustrator Gašper Krajnc, who won the Zlatirepec Award for the best original comic book for Mestne Ptice(VigeVageKnjige, 2020) last year, will present his way of working, framing and setting comic pages, and reveal how the sequel, titled Vaške Ptice, is progressing.

Swedish comics artist Moa Romanova, a graduate of the Malmö Comic Art School, will show us how her comics are created, from an idea to a sketch on paper to realization in a digital environment. The presentation will be held in English.

KUŠ! & STRIPBURGER: 15 & 30 YEARS ON THE SCENE

International comics magazine kuš! and Stripburger have always enthusiastically encouraged comics creativity – the Latvian kuš! for 15 years and the Slovenian Stripburger twice that, for around 30 years! The editors of both magazines – David Schilter and David Krančan – will discuss their views on independent comics production, publishing and the domestic and international comics scene. The presentation will be held in English. Psst, Stripburger is supposedly also preparing a special exhibition surprise.

LEPORELLO – FOLDED LEAFLETS
children’s workshop (6+)

At the workshop, we will look at various folded comic books and leaflets. Then we will draw a series of drawings with pencils, coloured pencils and crayons, turning them into leaflets folded into an accordion – leporellos. The workshop will be led by comics artist Andrej Štular and Petra Gosenca from the GUMB Association.

BRECHT EVENS
masterclass

Belgian comics artist Brecht Evens, author of several high-profile comic books such as The Wrong Place (2009), The Making Of (2011), Panther (2014) and The City of Belgium (2018), will offer us insight into his work process and show how his comics are created, from script and sketch to drawing, colouring and the final book. The presentation will be held in English.

YOUNG FORCES: LOCAL COMIC DEBUTS

After many years of searching for young comic book authors, we were served with debuts from three authors this year. We will talk about the Instagram comics of Karolina Marušič (@karolinaumetnina), which were gathered and published in the book Ma kej?, the autobiographical comic book Sumatra by Katarina Šeme and the comic book adaptation of the famous Borut Pahor novel Necropolis by Jurij Devetak. The conversation will be moderated by Pia Nikolič.

PETER KUPER

Peter Kuper is one of the world’s comics masters. In addition, he is a highly engaged artist with an emphasized ethical note and, in addition to entertaining and personal comic books, also makes socially critical comics and comic book adaptations of literary classics. He publishes regularly in Stripburger magazine, and several of his books have already been published in Slovenian. He will talk with Bojan Albahari, translator, comics reviewer and member of the Stripburger editorial staff. The conversation will be held in English.

MOA ROMANOVA

A conversation with the Swedish comics artist Moa Romanova about her acclaimed semi-autobiographical debut Goblin Girl, recently translated into Slovenian, as well as about her latest book På Glid (Gliding), where she dives into her generation’s attitude to recreational drugs and explores the dark and bright sides of their use. She will talk with comics artist Izar Lunaček. The conversation will held in English.

ZLATIREPEC 2022 AND LIVE CARTOON
Stripolis awards ceremony and festival closing event

The main day of the festival will be concluded with the Stripolis Zlatirepec 2022 Awards ceremony for the best original and translated comics issues of the year and the legendary Live Cartoon. Narrator Rok Kušlan will weave a comics story with the help of the audience, while Ciril Horjak – Dr. Horowitz will draw it on a large canvas. The story and comic will be accompanied by music by Žiga Golob.
