At the conclusion of the touring cycle for their 2017 masterpiece Berdreyminn, atmospheric Icelandic post-metal outfit Sólstafir are returning to Ljubljana. Their unique metallic blend of beautiful melodies, psychedelic moments and hard rock undercurrents promise a wonderful evening.
Since its black metal beginnings nearly 25 years ago, the four-piece Sólstafir has grown into yet another of Iceland’s fairy-tale music exports – no wonder many describe them as “Sigur Rós goes metal”. After the breakthrough albums Svartir Svandar (2011) and Ótta (2014), which made it to the top of numerous metal album of the year lists, the band released likely their best album so far, Berdreyminn, in 2017 via Season of Mist.
The record, praised by media such as Metal Injection, will be at the forefront of the band’s visit to Ljubljana in 2019, as it will come to life with the help of a strings section. Of course, a selection of suitable šast compositions won’t be missing, either. In the band’s own words: “Solstafir have long since enveloped their audience in a wave of emotion; here they will cocoon, then fly free to the skies.”
