Ezhel boasts millions of views on his tracks and albums that have made him a symbol of rebellion and freedom of expression in Turkey. His music — blending trap, hip hop and reggae elements — is marked by authenticity and emotional depth, earning him a devoted following not only in Turkey but worldwide. Ezhel pushes the boundaries of rap music, using his art as a powerful tool for storytelling and social commentary, solidifying his status as a pioneering artist in the genre.
Born Sercan İpekçioğlu on 1 July 1990 in Ankara, Turkey, and now based in Berlin, Ezhel is one of the most influential figures in the Turkish and German rap scenes. He grew up on the vibrant yet challenging streets of Ankara, exposed from a young age to a wide range of musical influences including reggae, hip hop, and Anatolian rock. His passion for music began in his teenage years, when he started experimenting with freestyling and performing in underground rap battles.
Ezhel’s breakthrough came with his debut album Müptezhel in 2017, which quickly became a cultural phenomenon in Turkey. The album, merging rap with reggae and trap, was praised for its raw lyrics addressing themes like urban life, social issues, and the struggles of youth. Tracks such as Şehrimin Tadı and Geceler deeply resonated with a generation facing economic and social challenges, making Ezhel the voice of Turkish youth.
Despite legal challenges, including arrests over alleged promotion of drug use in his lyrics, Ezhel’s popularity only grew. His collaborations with global artists like Aitch, Luciano, Gentleman, and Ufo361 have expanded his reach and cemented his position as a key figure in the international hip-hop community.
