SLEAFORD MODS

+ Carina

Sleaford Mods, the guitarless punks of the highest calibre and the most intriguing duo of the contemporary British music scene, are finally coming to our region! As part of our 10th anniversary celebration, they’ll present this year’s excellent new album Eton Alive, characteristically suffused in minimalist instrumentals and razor-sharp social commentary. We’ll warm up with cult local punk band Carina, who’ll release their new album Nš člouk on that very day.

Jason Williamson and Andrew Fearn aka Sleaford Mods crashed into post-recession Great Britain about five years ago, as the angry voice of the disaffected working class, with harsh criticism of the ruling politicians and society. Their sarcastic lyrics, intertwined through minimalist beats and served with Williamson’s instantly recognisable sprechgesang, didn’t resonate just with the British proletariat. With albums such as Divide and Exit and Key Markets, Sleaford Mods conquered listeners and audiences all over the world, landed at the top of the end-of-the-year best-of charts, and started collaborating even with electronic music icons such as The Prodigy and Leftfield.

The released their fifth studio album Eton Alive in February, again hitting hard with their merciless absurdist humour, an expanded sonic palette, and detailed depictions of the issues of the contemporary society in decline. The record has been receiving high marks everywhere (Guardian, NME, Clash …), and they will present it as part of the 10th anniversary celebration of Kino Šiška at an exclusive first concert in the region.

Local punks Carina are already looking forward to the show as well, as they’ll release their new album, the first since their excellent debut Od Lublance do Save, on the same day, via Nika Records. In their own words: “On 20 September, the members of Carina will liven up their everyday with an international collaboration with the English band Sleaford Mods or rather with a performance at the event at Kino Šiška, where they will perform as well. At the same time, the event will coincide with the release of our new album, the second one, after our 2005 debut. Its title is Nš člouk, like the song of the same title that has been in circulation for two years already. In addition to the title song, the records holds nine more songs in the style of punk and post-punk, as these terms are understood byus, known as fans of borders and transgressing them. The performance will thus be a unique opportunity for all who wrongly believe that V.I.S. Carina exists only as information, to come into direct contact with our hairy salaciousness. Get off your ass and get to dancing.”

Tickets on sale online and at Eventim outlets.

Organisation: Kino Šiška. The event is part of the 10th anniversary celebration of Kino Šiška.
