ŠIŠKA OPEN I FANZINE & COLLAGE

workshop with Petja Kolenko

free entry

At the workshop by artist Petja Kolenko, we will create imaginative images and visual stories by assembling collages from a wide variety of photographs, graphics, and typography cut out from books, newspapers, magazines, and other printed materials.

These stories will be complemented by chosen texts or words. Our inspiration will come from music, with motifs drawn from song lyrics. The content of the selected musical pieces can be depicted either as literal illustrations or interpreted more freely through personal perception. To make the process easier, we recommend that participants choose a musical piece they love or feel personally connected to before attending the workshop. The resulting collages will be brought together into a collective piece in the form of a fanzine* or zine.

The workshop is intended for young people and adults aged 15 and above.

The number of participants is limited. Apply at: maja.alibegovic@dobravaga.si
Duration: approx. 2 hours

* The term “fanzine” is a portmanteau of the English words fan and magazine. Fanzines, or zines for short, are small, often self-published “do-it-yourself” booklets produced in limited editions and with low production costs. The core values of (fan)zine creators have been and remain creativity, independence (DIY – Do It Yourself), affordability, non-profit orientation, community building, and communication. (Fan)zines have emerged as a medium for various subcultures of the past century, beginning with science fiction enthusiasts. Among music fanzines (the earliest dating back to 1966), punk fanzines have been the most influential, but they exist and continue to evolve in a wide range of forms and content.
