One of Slovenia’s most compelling bands, Širom, returns to Kino Šiška with the premiere performance of their fifth album. While still rooted in their signature exploratory folk, this new work ventures into darker territory and introduces a refreshed range of instruments.
FOR FANS OF: Lankum, Druga Godba, Tinariwen …
A homegrown musical phenomenon, Širom has established itself as a distinctive and captivating presence on the global music scene through its fusion of diverse sonic traditions, a handcrafted musical imagination, and a refined, genre-defying approach. Iztok Koren, Samo Kutin, and Ana Kravanja create a unique, stylistically cohesive sound that spans the spectrum from folk traditions to contemporary acoustic-rock meditations. Their work has been praised by respected outlets such as The Wire, The Quietus, and KEXP, and has taken them to stages around the world.
The inspiration for the album V vetru šepetajo trdopadla zaklinjanja was found by each member of the trio in different places: in places where wildness and the kind of force is present which makes one feel interdependence and smallness; in confrontations with loss and the rebuilding and sustaining of hope that human cruelty and self-destructiveness will ease; and in questions about the relationship of humans to one another and to other beings sharing the same globe. These impressions have been translated into new compositions with the help of freshly introduced instruments – including a handmade bass harp, a lyre crafted from ancient spruce, the traditional Mongolian string instrument morin khuur, the Iranian string instrument qeychak, and more.
