Mattias Desmet is a world authority on the current phenomenon of new totalitarianism.
He gained fame with his book The Psychology of Totalitarianism, in which he convincingly explains the phenomenon of mass formation and mass hypnosis. This is a process that “leads to an infernal pact between the masses and the elite, which totalitarianism always is.” How to stop and reverse this process? According to Desmet, the answer lies in parrhesia: “Truth speech connects us. It is the truth that restores the ties between people in an almost magical, miraculous way, that harmonizes people and the relationship between man and body.”
