To celebrate the release of the eagerly awaited debut release of “very short stories” entitled V imenu očeta (In the Name of the Father, Goga, 2013), author Dijana Matković and musician Igor Matković will perform together in Komuna Hall, Kino Šiška.

With her intimate collection In the Name of the Father, Dijana Matković will take us through stories of a not very fortunate family, later she will be stumbling and getting lost through romantic relationships and eventually bring us back to Ljubljana, where she will use her literary heroine to present a possible way of life in the Slovenian capital. To provide appropriate atmosphere and music accompaniment to her reading, the renowned Slovenian jazz musician Igor Matković will be playing the trumpet and keyboards, referencing the music featured in the collection and providing additional effects.

Expect a pleasant declaration expressed by two representatives of the younger generation of creatives. They are not related (not that it matters, but since you have been wondering), but when on stage they use the same literary and music language pretty efficiently. For both authors, the title of the collection and of the event is quite significant – father as the central figure in the prose debut of Dijana Matković and father as the first music teacher of Igor Matković.

Press coverage of Dijana Matković:

“A fresh witty voice of the young generation that can be read in columns, interviews, articles and blogs. Straightforward, daring, seductive. Soon we will be able to read it in her literary debut, a short story collection entitled In the Name of the Father.” Katja Šulc, Modna Jana

“With her sensual calm, Dijana Matković has presented the male phantasm – a women who will admire the man and therefore expose him in all his misery and helplessness.” Robert Kuret on her performance at Mlade rime poetry reading, Literatura

Press coverage of Igor Matković:

“Trumpet player, pianist, composer, professor – in one word, a musician who is quite at home in popular music as well as various faces of jazz, yet always striving for quality and particularly to tell a story.” Katja Nared, Siol

“One of the most active representatives of the young generation of jazz musicians is trumpet player Igor Matković. To him, trumpet has been an obvious choice: it was close at hand as his father also plays the same instrument.” Tina Lešničar, Delo
