Lace, First Weaving: A Bow

performance

The loot that falls is to the sound of the bowstring what lightning is to the sound of thunder. – Pascal Quignard, The Hatred of Music

The interdisciplinary project Lace is titled after the ornamental perforated fabric made of thread, a significant part of the cultural heritage of many countries worldwide, including Slovenia. It is inspired by the complex cultural history of lace, particularly its intangible and invisible aspect. Each lace product reflects not only its own developmental path but also the diverse techniques of lace-making, intertwining the history of influences and exchanges of countless patterns and forms, incorporating the creativity of its many creators and various meanings …

Lace, First Weaving: A Bow emerges at the intersection of contemporary dance and music, based on co-authorship and incompleteness. It evolves gradually, through the collective knotting and embroidering of all participants, weaving their unique and diverse patterns into a constantly changing form.

Bow, the friction of the string, sound.

The bow postulates the liberation of energy.

Movement and sound are connected by vibration.

It’s not the external strings but those within us that define us; we are the ones determining the tension—flexibility or rigidity—of our own bow, ourselves. Each of us is our own marionette.

In silence and stillness, the ear and body are most engaged, ready, attentive—receptive.

The performance Lace, First Weaving: A Bow is woven by four dancers and musicians from Slovenia, Portugal, and the Czech Republic: Gregor Luštek, Kristýna Peldová, Kristijan Krajnčan, and Eduardo Raon.
