Cemporality Catastres of Spaces: Our Thing

event series/assembly

The essence of public cultural infrastructure is that it is inalienable, permanent public property, accessible to the widest possible circle of creators. Nevertheless, the gap between those who have access to the spaces and those who do not remains (far) too great. As a community, we are therefore obliged to consider various systemic solutions that could help reduce these differences.

Through a series of assemblies organised by Maska Ljubljana, Nomad Dance Academy Slovenia, and Kino Šiška, we reflect on the modes of governance and operations that emerge in the processes of community building and space management. We consider the boundaries between private and public, governmental and non-governmental, institutional and non-institutional, while mapping spatial dynamics.

At the assembly, we will discuss the opportunities and – inevitably – the possible challenges of establishing a register and system for renting out available spaces that would connect public institutions and NGOs, enabling fair, transparent, and efficient access to shared spaces. The idealistic premise is that this could create conditions in which public spaces at least occasionally serve almost everyone and contribute to raising the quality of artistic productions.

As part of the third assembly, together with invited speakers and the interested public, we will outline a possible model for the use of public infrastructure while also addressing various questions, concerns, and difficulties in developing a new model of collaboration. There are countless questions – we hope that different perspectives will lead us to shared answers.

The assembly will be moderated by: Alja Lobnik (Maska Ljubljana) and Tibor Mihelič Syed (Kino Šiška)

Active participants: Jure Novak (Cankar Centre), Rok Bozovičar (Prešeren Theatre Kranj), Meta Lavrič (EnKnap, Španski Borci Cultural Centre), Inga Remeta (Mladinsko Theatre), Uroš Veber (Asociacija), Teja Reba (Contemporary Dance Association), Olja Grubić, Beno Novak, Sara Janašković

Organised by: Maska Ljubljana, Nomad Dance Academy Slovenia, and Kino Šiška.
