KAMIZDAT RENTGEN: NETLABEL DAY & ACCESS FRAME: AUTONOMY

concert

Every year on the 14th of July, we have the opportunity to question the state of affairs between the commons, the private, and the public, or rather the commons, the market and the state.

Every year, on Netlabel Day, we have the opportunity to look again in the eyes of our fellow musicians, producers, publishers on the music scene, and to make it clear that there is an alternative to collective organisations and the principles of enacted copyright law. Indeed, some artists want to be closer to their audiences and do not want to accept the market and the consumer imperative. That is the creative commons.

On this day, Kamizdat is also releasing a collection of sounds in the Access Frame series on an increasingly consistent basis. This is not just a traditional compilation, but a sonic zine, a collage of sonic elements from diverse and adventurous Slovenian sound artists. This time Access Frame is titled Autonomy.

The concert event, Kamizdat Rentgen: Netlabel Day, has an even stronger international component this time, as Kino Šiška is even more “’public-stream”’ oriented this year. It is a live concerts , but also accessible to a global audience and community via a webcast on live.pretok.tv.

TWO ROUND ROBINS
two round robins is an ambient music artist currently based in Ljubljana, Slovenia. His work delves into the captivating interplay between organic and synthesized sounds, seeking innovative ways to blend and test the boundaries between naturally occurring sounds and human-made sonic manipulation. Through his compositions, he explores the tension and harmony between the raw and the artificial, delicate and harsh – creating immersive soundscapes that challenge listeners to reconsider the relationship between nature and technology. The performance will be accompanied by improvised processed violin played by Margarita Ulokina, creating a natural blend of acoustic instruments and synthetic processing.

ROB CANNING
Rob Canning (Dublin, 1974) is a musician, intermedia artist and educator. He creates music for the concert hall, theatre, film screen and dance productions, and is involved in a wide range of site-specific projects and improvisational contexts. His compositions have been performed internationally and presented at conferences such as ICMC (International Computer Music Conference), LAC (Linux Audio Conference) and NIME (New Interfaces for Musical Expression). Since the 1990s he has been creating exclusively using free and open source software. As a free culture advocate and educator, he has worked closely with the media arts collective GOTO10, Openlab London Hackspace and SPC medialab, and spent several years as a senior lecturer in networked digital media at UK universities. He now lives and works in Slovenia, where he and his family are developing a rural arts programme within the Rizoma Institute, working at the intersection of technology, permaculture and performing arts. She holds a PhD in Music Composition from Goldsmiths University. In 2023 he released his album of eleectroacoustic  on Kamizdat.

Luka Prinčič: ## Creative Commons in 2025
The internet in the early 2000s posed a significant challenge to copyright law – the shortcomings and harmfulness of a system based on intellectual property and the physical manifestation of an author’s work became evident. Instead of reform, a legal tool for licensing copyrighted works without intermediaries was established based on outdated, yet publisher-friendly concepts: Creative Commons licenses. Twenty years later, with the advent of so-called artificial intelligence, the Big Tech, and streaming platforms, the challenges are quite different. Is the idea of Creative Commons still relevant for musicians during this time? A brief exposition will present some key debates for contemporary musicians on the internet.

▂ KAMIZDAT RENTGEN ▂
”Kamizdat Rentgen” is a glance under the surface of the skin, a look into the fleshy entwinement of bones, muscles and nerves that shape the heterogeneity of the sound bodies. It is a series of music events organized by Kamizdat to increase the visibility of adventurous music makers who dare to venture into the territories where no one had been before. The events are often closely connected with the label’s new releases.
