Experimenting with visualizing emotions in digital space

Emotional Window workshop for designers, developers, creatives, art, design and IT students

Emotional Window is a research project supported by Aalto Media Factory. Its main focus is on exploring non-verbal visualization of emotions in digital space. The workshop links design, programming, and other creative disciplines in a search of a universal visual language of emotions, and their conduct in an interactive audiovisual web environment.

The experimental nature of the project enables it to link the participants from various fields interested in topics of emotions and web environments to work together and actively challenge themselves in this field.

Timeline:

Short introduction lectures: 8. Nov, 11h at Kino Šiška -Komuna

Team work experiments: 8 – 10 Nov, 11-17h

Individual guidance (if needed): 11 Nov

Closing presentation event: 12 Nov, 20h

All participants will be guided to experiment with visualizing and auralizing emotions in an interactive multi-touch environment. Participants will work together in multi-disciplinary teams, organized based on the skill sets and interests.

The Designers will get familiar with web technologies and interactive environment and will be able to help visualize team’s understanding of emotions. Graphic design student’s prerequisites: Adobe Suite

(No computing and web / multi-touch technologies knowledge needed.)

The Developers will get to experiment with the latest web technologies, multi-touch, interactive media, and a visual programming environment.

The Creatives of different backgrounds will help with concept development and other tasks towards the end result at the closing presentation event.
