DEAFHEAVEN + TOUCHÉ AMORÉ

+ Portrayal of Guilt

As part of the 10th anniversary celebration of Kino Šiška, we’ll make sure there’s something for fans of heavier tunes as well. This excellent night will feature post-metal band Deafheaven, whose album Sunbather, one of the best releases of the decade, brought hard sounds to the masses; the emotionally charged post-hardcore outfit Touché Amoré; and support by Texans Portrayal of Guilt, whose 2018 debut immediately established them as a metal force to be reckoned with.

American five-piece Deafheaven crashed into the top of not just metal best-of lists, but best-of lists in general with their second album Sunbather in 2013 – for example, in the U.S., the record is one of the best-rated albums of the year. The band’s boundaries-shifting blend of black metal, shoegaze and post-rock established them as an example to countless others and an integral part of festival line-ups all over the world. After their 2012 show, the band is returning to Ljubljana at the peak of its fame and with last year’s fourth album Ordinary Corrupt Human Love, featuring the Grammy-nominated single “Honeycomb”, in tow.

Like Deafheaven, Touché Amoré are also returning to these parts, and the two bands also have the latter’s guitarist Nick Steinhardt in common – he was in charge of the visual appearance of all of Deafheaven’s albums. Two years ago, Touché Amoré raged at Metelkova on the back of the relentless Stage Four, “a glowing testament the post-hardcore band’s melodicism, honesty, and unconditional empathy” (Pitchfork), recorded in the shadow of the cancer-related death of frontman Jeremy Bolm’s mother. The fourth and, according to reviewers, best album landed at the top of numerous best-of-2016 lists and firmly established the band as one of the leading names in contemporary melodic hardcore. The band is coming to our tenth anniversary following the release of the 10 Years / 1000 Shows live album, fittingly recorded at the band’s own tenth anniversary.

We’ll warm up with Texan post-hardcore/screamo maniacs Portrayal of Guilt. They made their name with an intense, razor-sharp sonic assault that erases the boundaries between various aggressive styles in the manner of Converge or pg.99. Their thrillingly chaotic debut Let Pain be Your Guide was regarded as one of the biggest and most brutal surprises of last year.

Tickets on sale online and at Eventim outlets as of 26. 4.

Organisation: Kino Šiška. The event is part of the 10th anniversary celebration of Kino Šiška.
