DAMIEN RICE

After his former collaborator Lisa Hannigan charmed us last year, we’re excited to announce the first performance of Damien Rice, the superstar master of fragile, beautiful songs and sharp romantic reflection, in Slovenia!

When Irishman Damien Rice released his solo debut O in 2002, more or less the whole world fell in love with his music. His refined feeling for gentle melodies without excessive cheesiness and for devastating sincerity that pinpoints the essence of interpersonal relations and bare emotion placed him in the very top of contemporary song writing. His backing band at the time included a young Lisa Hannigan, who would go on to have a successful solo career of her own, and his music left its unique mark on cinema as well, including the Oscar-nominated feature film Closer.

Despite the recipient of the prestigious 2003 Shortlist Music Prize having released only two more studio albums so far, 9 (2006) and My Favourite Faded Fantasy (2014), they’re both regarded as masterpieces among critics and reviewers alike – especially the latter proving, after an eight-year pause between releases and separating with Hannigan, that Rice is simply exceptional.

In recent years, in addition to performing and occasional music collaborations, Rice also focused on charity work. This year, he joined the newly established art collective PEOPLE, led by the Dessner Brothers (The National) and Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), and begun publishing new songs. And, most importantly of all, marked “Kino Šiška” next to 26th September in his calendar.

Organisation: Kino Šiška.
