CAKES DA KILLA

+ Tigerbalm

Straight from the most feverish club basements of New York, one of the most exciting new voices in hip hop today according to The Needle Drop, Cakes Da Killa, is coming to Slovenia! After the debauchery previously cooked up in Šiška by Mykki Blanco and Le1f, the rapper whose quick-on-the-draw rhymes, unyielding pride and amped-up beats not just call, but pull to the dancefloor with both hands, will ensure a proper hedonistic start to the summer.

Silver-tongued Rashard Bradshaw aka Cakes Da Killa never let himself be labelled as “just another” member of the trendy queer hip-hop scene. He built and solidified his reputation with five excellently received mixtapes (especially the ground-breaking The Eulogy in 2013), which paved the way for his meaningfully titled debut album Hedonism, released in 2016 and praised for both his precise flow and the skilful production. The rapper served up a batch of hard-hitting club bangers, online chaotica, seductive trap ricochets and boom bap lessons, respectful of the bountiful heritage of hip-hop and spiced up with lyrical honesty, directness and tantalising undercurrents.

With the record, Cakes Da Killa returned furious, hedonistic pleasure and ecstatically swaying hips to the dancefloor, simultaneously proving that though global perceptions of hip-hop today revolve primarily around the trinity of Kendrick LamarDrakeKanye West, they’re far from everything the genre offers. There’s a wild, unbridled voice of the streets boiling in their shadow, and in the beginning of June, it will ring out loud in Slovenia. The pleasurable excesses that the night leads to when a New York original invites you to the party are simply something that has to be experienced live.

Pre- and after-party duties will fall to local veterans of dancing your feet off until the morning, Freeverse and DVS, who will, in cooperation with multimedia artist and VJ 5237, active in the fields of design, illustration and video, bring along their new project Tigerbalm. The series of eclectic, bass-oriented nights usually resides at Club K4, but for this occasion, the unpredictable, yet always gourmet selection of varied club music from all ends of the real and digital world will pay an exciting visit to Šiška.
