After more than 15 years, one of the key names of the Tucson Americana or desert indie rock scene, Calexico, is finally coming back to Slovenia! The band, established by the former members of Giant Sand, will play at Šiška for the first time, presenting the exciting sound of their new album The Thread That Keeps Us. The record was released via Anti-Records and City Slang this year, immediately setting a whole new standard for the band.
Kino Šiška and the Sezam crew are calling an allnighter, headed by producer Dan Snaith, who previously got us moving as Caribou and Manitoba. He will visit Ljubljana for the first time as his DJ alter-ego Daphni, who’s brought the beats to the most famed clubs and festivals around the whole world. The evening will be introduced and outroduced by YGT, Dacho and Levanael. Now that’s the way to start the autumn!

After an exhilarating first visit in 2014, the GrandMothers of Invention, the only alumni of the legendary Frank Zappa and his band The Mothers of invention who have constantly played the maestro’s music since 2003, are returning to Šiška as part of their farewell tour. It’s been some hectic last months, for Yours Truly, after the announcement of a very, very heavy pair of acts: Europe and the Land of the Rising Sun meet each other and complete themselves in this co-headliner tour, with Amenra supporting their latest, great album “Mass VI” and Boris, also with a new album out in recent times, “Dear”. Freezing temperatures outside, dilated time inside despite the short show (everything lasted a bit less than three hours) and much, much suffering in the Slovenian capital city.
The former Sub Pop roster outliers, the crazy garage punk cowboys Supersuckers, worshipped among others by Lemmy Kilmister himself, Eddie Vedder, Cheap Trick, Willie Nelson and Little Steven, are returning to Ljubljana in April. Before the concert in Kino Šiška, we talked with a singer and songwriter named Obaro Ejimiwe, more known as Ghostpoet who would not put himself in any specific genre. He’s doing music to present his thoughts about his surroundings and because he likes to. After a bunch of technical difficulties with telephone connection we finally got to do a short interview about how he started, what’s about his latest album and how is the tour going. We’ll head to Metelkova in the company of the legendary Motorpsycho, who have been cruising the rock psychoverse for two decades, infusing it with prog, jazz, noise and whatever other kind of element they think off. The four-time winners of the esteemed Norwegian “Grammy”, the Spellemannprisen award, who have collaborated with Steve Albini and Jaga Jazzist, were rejuvenated two years ago by a new drummer, who also plays in Zu. Together, they created last year’s hearty double album The Tower for the influential Rune Grammofon label, with the recording process also taking place at the famed Rancho De La Luna studio.
