Maria Somerville, the Irish musician who drew deep from her homeland to create one of the year’s standout albums, the dream-pop masterpiece Luster, released by the renowned label 4AD, will visit Šiška for the first time.
FOR FANS OF: My Bloody Valentine, Mazzy Star, Low …
Growing up on the wild west coast of Ireland, Maria Somerville first caught attention in 2019 with her self-released debut All My People, an album steeped in yearning, slowcore balladry, and ambient melancholy. Even though she already successfully conjured the mist-shrouded landscapes of her youth on that record, her true musical leap was still ahead of her.
The creative spark Somerville felt upon returning to the land where she grew up led to Luster (2025), released on the independent London label 4AD. The album swirls through dream pop and shoegaze influences, presenting Somerville as an artist confidently forging her own path into mystical territories of boundless potential, beautiful solitude, and nostalgic familiarity, while transforming her inspirations into something entirely new and different.
The album was met with praise from listeners and critics alike in outlets such as Pitchfork, The Guardian, and Bandcamp Daily — the latter even calling Luster one of the best things 4AD has released in ages, despite the label’s roster including heavyweights like Big Thief, The National, and Dry Cleaning. Somerville, who has also hosted a morning show on online station NTS for several years now, joined Dry Cleaning on tour, and was invited to open for Irish legends My Bloody Valentine. In March 2026, she’ll perform in Šiška with her full band — and we’re pretty sure both they and we will feel right at home.
