INSPIRED BY DAVID BOWIE

music video screening and Masaž concert

Presale 10 €

discounted 7.50 €

In this edition of Inspired by we pay tribute to artistic chameleon David Bowie and the form of the music video. A screening of his iconic videos will showcase both the breadth of Bowie’s creativity and the development of the music video as an independent artistic medium. The evening’s second act will be rounded off by the band Masaž, offering their own take on Bowie’s timeless hits.

The evening dedicated to David Bowie will explore the music video as a space of constant transformation, from early performative recordings to later short films with their own cinematic logic. The selection of works will highlight how the music video evolved over the decades from simple documentation of a performer to a fully fledged authorial form.

The programme will follow Bowie’s evolution: from early videos such as Space Oddity or Life on Mars? where performance takes centre stage; through the iconographically distilled Heroes; and into the period when the music video became a site for more developed visual concepts. Ashes to Ashes signals this shift with its symbolic imagery and jump-cut editing, while Let’s Dance and China Girl from the 1980s open the door to broader social themes. Videos like The Stars (Are Out Tonight) and Lazarus step confidently into the realm of short film, where music, image, and narrative intertwine into a self-contained artistic expression, inevitably intertwined with the life and death of the pop-culture icon.
