Three years and one invasion since they packed our Katedrala Hall with their unique ethno-chaos, fearless Ukrainian quartet DakhaBrakha are returning to Šiška for another night of genre-blending world music and punk spirit.
FOR FANS OF: The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices, Balkan Taksim, Druga Godba …
DakhaBrakha is a genre-defying quartet from Kyiv, known for their powerful blend of traditional Ukrainian folk music and global sonic influences. Formed in 2004 at the Dakh Contemporary Arts Centre, the group coined their style as “ethno-chaos” – a bold fusion of folk, punk, world music, and theatrical performance. Their music weaves haunting polyphonic vocals with instruments from across the globe, while their striking traditional garb and towering headdresses add to the spectacle of their live shows.
Over the past two decades, DakhaBrakha have become international ambassadors for Ukrainian culture, resilience, and spirit, performing at major festivals like Glastonbury, Roskilde, and WOMAD, while their Tiny Desk concert for NPR and appearance on Later… with Jools Holland brought their sound to a global audience.
Even amid political upheaval and war, DakhaBrakha continue to tour worldwide, using their art to express solidarity, grief, and resilience. In a poignant turn of events, their previous, sold-out concert at Kino Šiška took place just ten days before the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The world has changed significantly since then, but if anything, DakhaBrakha is even more of a band for our times than before. Both ancient and avant-garde, channelling centuries of tradition through a fearless, contemporary lens, they’re ready to treat you to another transcendent night of rhythm, ritual, and resistance.
