12th International Zine Open Call

19. 06. 2026

For the 12th consecutive year, the DobraVaga Gallery is organising an international open call for zines.

We invite creators of original and experimental publications who explore contemporary practices of self-publishing, visual storytelling, and independent production through the zine format to participate. Both individuals and collectives with diverse creative approaches are welcome to join. Please send us your zines by 10 October 2026.

Zines:

A zine is an independent publication created outside established publishing systems, allowing for experimentation with content and form. Zines, which first began to appear in the early 1960s, remain an important medium for self-expression and communication for artists, members of various subcultures, and other creators. They emerged as an alternative to dominant print media, a role they continue to play in many instances today. They are characterised by diverse approaches to design and production, a wide range of topics, and the various functions they serve. As a direct and original form of expression, they remain a living medium, constantly changing, evolving, and adapting to new creative practices. Due to their accessibility and freedom of expression, they are particularly popular among younger generations of creators.

For more than ten years, the DobraVaga Gallery has been organizing zine exhibitions, workshops, and other events dedicated to self-publishing and independent production. In our archive, we hold over 800 different zines from Slovenia and abroad, which are available to view throughout the year.

Open call:

The zine selected from the received submissions will be featured in an exhibition at Kino Šiška (supported with an exhibition fee in the gross amount of 350 Euros and project production co-financing in the amount of 250 Euros).

The authors of other outstanding zines will get the opportunity for a solo paid exhibition within the Zine Vitrine programme at the DobraVaga Gallery.

The submitted zines will be reviewed by a committee of artists and curators active in the field of zines: Hana Besjedica, Manuel Brajnik, Špela Pečjak, Eva Pušnik, Olja Simčič Jerele, and Maša Žekš.

Submission:

– contact (e-mail, website, social media profiles, if they present the author’s creative work)

– zine title and year of issue

– a numbered copy of the zine (ie. 7/15)

– a short description of the zine (up to 500 characters including spaces)
