Renowned Austrian choreographer Christine Gaigg and her group 2nd Nature first visited Ljubljana to perform their show Sacre Material at Exodos Festival in 2001. The performance combined the analysis of movement and explicit reference to the music score of Le Sacre Du Printemps (1913) by Igor Stravinsky and the eponymous original choreography by Vaslav Nijinsky, touching upon various types of public sacrifices. This time the choreography of DeSacre! (2013) is based on real politics; the pagan sacrificial rite that had to be imagined around 1911 by Russian anthropologists by commission of Sergei Diaghilev due to the Parisian obsession with primitivist elements in art and the consequential high demand for such motifs both in painting (i.e. Cubism and Fauvism) and other arts (dance, theatre, music), was first presented in choreography (Vaslav Nijinsky) and music (Igor Stravinsky) at its legendary first performance on 29 May 1913 at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Paris. And scandal was exactly what Diaghilev had been hoping for: there could be no better publicity and nobody other than Diaghilev could have possibly imagined a better public relations strategy at the time. On 12 February 2012, just before the 100th anniversary of the first performance of the scandalous Russian ballet show, the feminist punk band Pussy Riot performed their ritual punk dance, “Punk Prayer: Mother of God, Drive Putin Away!” in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, Moscow. On 3March of the same year, members of the punk band were arrested, which was followed by a staged political process that has grown into a global political scandal, With  DeSacre! (2013), choreographer Christine Gaigg returns to the Russian classic work in more than one sense: by exploring artistic and Soviet connotations.
