In the upcoming season, Kiosk will again be dedicating its space to young visual artists below the age of 26, who will be presented in monthly solo exhibitions as part of the Young Artist Series 2.0. In October, the first to be presented is Polona Drobnič, student of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design.

Made during her student exchange programme, her drawings are alternative postcards of Milan, depicting not the major sights, but insignificant everyday details from lives of its inhabitants that would get overlooked in one’s own city. The exhibited photographs only served as the initial inspiration, and in the process of creation the artist drifted away to transform the observed reality into an interesting mixture of art forms and the play of light and shadows.

“The idea for drawings emerged during an evening walk through town. Coming from behind huge glass doors of residential buildings, there was light talking of the residents, of home, and metal bars were separating the dark exterior from the lit entrance halls. In the big city, it became even more obvious that home and security were the privilege of those who can afford it, whereas to others there was nothing else but sleeping on the street, in improvised shelters made of cardboard boxes. It is this dividing line that the drawings of entrance doors talk about: who can close the door behind them and who remains outside. Present in the drawings are the visitors waiting outside to be let in, looking at the light coming through the door.”
