Spilt Ink | Documentary Graphic Novels as Witness and Interpreters of the World

lecture

This lecture will focus on documentary graphic novels, especially the work of Maltese-American cartoonist and journalist Joe Sacco.

We will be interested in comics that are rooted in reality, using real events as their template. Talking about Sacco, we will highlight the graphic novels Palestine and Footnotes in Gaza. The lecture will also reflect on how graphic novels, by inhabiting the intersection between verbal and visual narratives, represent a multimodal, hybrid genre that can also be addressed through some of the approaches to postclassical narratology. The lecture will be given by Dr. Leonora Flis, literary theorist, critic, writer and translator.

Free entry.
Organisation: Kino Šiška.

Spilt Ink is a series of lectures and discussions about comics with experts and fans of this artistic discipline, in preparation for the next edition of the Tinta comics festival at Kino Šiška in October 2022.
