British trio Daughter, protégés of 4AD, quickly became popular among fans of intimate indie folk with their introduction of hushed electronics into moody, yet damn catchy songs. After two extremely well received albums, the band is finally coming for its first show in Slovenia, with brand new material to boot!

Daughter began around 10 years as the solo project of singer and guitarist of Irish-Italian descent Elena Tonra, later joined by guitarist Igor Haefeli and drummer Remi Aguilella. With their first recordings, the trio quickly carved a path onto British radio and drew the attention of the label owned by none other than Mumford & Sons, which published the band’s second EP The Wild Youth. Next they signed to famed British independent label 4AD, whose roster includes The National, Future Islands and Aldous Harding, then performed on The David Letterman Show, and finally released their full-length debut in 2013. The excellent If You Leave has received rave reviews – Drowned in Sound gave it a grade of 9/10 – and the AIM Independent Music Award for Independent Album of the Year, while the more than 100 million YouTube views of just the lead single “Still” prove that the album is a success among the broader public as well.

After a few years of live shows all over the world, including touring with The National and Ben Howard, the band’s second album Not to Disappear was published in 2016, again via 4AD and again well-received – for example, both Rough Trade and The Skinny placed its dynamic blend of indie pop, dark folk and shoegaze among the best releases of the year.

A year later, the band released the mainly instrumental video game score Music from Before the Storm, while its songs could be heard in a bunch of different series and films as well, from Grey’s Anatomy to The Vampire Diaries. After Elena focused on her solo work for a while, releasing her debut as Ex:Re in 2018, the band again went back to work together, and we’ll have the pleasure of being among the first to hear the undoubtedly charming result live at Šiška as well.
