BITCH, a Derogatory Term for a Woman

group exhibition

In the film Bitch, a Derogatory Term for a Woman, which premieres at Kino Šiška on March 18, fine art also plays an important role.

The main protagonist of the film Eva (Liza Marijina) is, after all, a painter. Excellent young artists Petra Korent, Petar Zekić, Boris Beja, Tina Sapundžić, Monika Slemc and Klara Šlenc, who contributed their works to the film, will be featured in a group exhibition at Kino Šiška.

Free entry.

Boris Beja (1986) graduated in 2009 from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, University of Ljubljana (UL), majoring in Graphic Arts Technology. He continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (UL), where he obtained a master’s degree from the Department of Sculpture in 2013. In recent years, he has prepared several solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions, including international ones. His visual creative practice combines various artistic approaches into an aestheticized and at the same time direct address, into a social critique that both reveals and interrogates the symptoms of modern society. Recently he has been working as a pedagogue, also at the Pionirski dom – Center for Youth Culture. He lives and works in Ljubljana and Zagorje ob Savi.

Klara Šlenc (1997) graduated in 2019 from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, majoring in Painting, where she is currently completing her master’s degree. In her works, she shows and draws attention to the oversaturated presentation of information by the mass media. She often includes symbols and elements she finds online in her works, such as cartoon characters, photorealistic portraits, inscriptions, graffiti, etc. She paints images in various techniques and uses mixed painting media, one on top of the other in lazure layers, connecting them with expressive brush strokes and dripping.

Petra Korent (1997) mostly works with simple drawings. In her work, she explores intimacy, the deeper meaning of emotions, and physical and emotional vulnerability during adolescence through humor. She finds inspiration in her home environment and tries to present uncomfortable but at the same time everyday situations in a humorous way. She often develops the drawing further with other media. She introduced herself to the general public for the first time in 2017 at DobraVaga, and since then she has participated in many group exhibitions and three solo shows.

Monika Slemc (1994) studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana, where she graduated in 2017 and also received her master’s degree in 2021. In her art practice, she explores the human–nature relationship in a technologically rapidly advancing modern society through the motif of landscapes. Using distortion, she creates the illusion of distorted imaginary landscapes, at times blurring the line between the real and the fictional, while the elusive images represent a world that is constantly changing before our eyes and is sometimes even lost. She has held solo shows at the Meduza Gallery in Koper and at DobraVaga in Ljubljana, and has also participated in numerous group exhibitions at home and abroad. She lives and works in Grosuplje.

Petar Zekić is studying painting at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana. He works in the fields of painting, sculpture, animation, graphic design and photography. In his work, he mainly explores figures and the body and reflects on the process of painting.

Tina Sapundžić (1995) is currently completing a master’s degree in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design. In addition to painting, she is very interested in illustration and photography. The latter is directly related to her main painting focus. She is currently exploring the role of traditional portraiture in contemporary times. She has presented her work at several exhibitions in Slovenia.
