The Bassless Trio of the internationally recognized jazz guitarist and composer Samo Salamon includes some of the best jazz musicians in the world. The leader of the lineup SAMO SALAMON (SLOVENIA) was declared in 2008 by the magazine Guitar Player as one of the hottest 10 guitarists in the world, while his first album Ornethology was ranked among the 1001 best albums in the history of jazz (Penguin Guide to Jazz). On soprano sax, oboe and bass clarinet is one of the most important jazz players in the history of jazz, founder of the legendary group Oregon and Grammy winner, PAUL McCANDLESS (USA). The trio is concluded by one of the most in-demand and creative European drummers, ROBERTO DANI (ITALY). The trio will present new and old compositions by Samo Salamon, which are a mix of composed and improvised music. The prestigious publishing house Penguin Books (Brian Morton & Richard Cook: The Penguin Jazz Guide – The History of the Music in the 1001 Best Albums (Penguin Books, 2011) has in 2011 ranked Samo Salamon’s CD Ornethology among the 1001 best albums in the history of jazz along the jazz giants, such as Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Charlie Parker and others. Samo Šalamon is the only Slovenian musicians who can boast with such an achievement!
PAUL McCANDLESS

A gifted multi-instrumentalist and composer, he specializes on the oboe, English horn, bass clarinet, soprano and sopranino saxophones and a collection of folk flutes reflecting his grounding in both classical and jazz disciplines. A student of Robert Bloom at the Manhattan School of Music, he was a finalist in the 1971 English horn auditions for the New York Philharmonic. As a collaborator and solo artist he is credited with more than 200 albums and performances with such musicians as Jaco Pastorius, Carla Bley, Wynton Marsalis, Lyle Mays, Pat Metheny, Mark Isham, Steve Reich, Al Jarreau, Bruce Hornsby, Art Lande, Tony Furtado, the String Cheese Incident, Nguyen Le, Proteus 7 and Fred Simon.

In 1996 he won a Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental with Béla Fleck and the Flecktones with whom he was a guest artist. McCandless’ fine tuned compositional skills have been called upon for a number of film scores. Most notably he wrote music for the video Squanto and the First Thanksgiving, a Rabbit Ears Production with Graham Greene as narrator. Paul recorded three of his orchestral scores for a CD called “Oregon In Moscow” featuring OREGON and the Moscow Tchaikovsky Orchestra. “ Round Robin,” the opening track received two 2001 Grammy nominations for Best Instrumental Composition and Best Instrumental Arrangement. As an orchestral soloist he has performed with the Camerata chamber orchestra of Mexico City, St Paul chamber orchestra, and the Philadelphia, Buffalo, Los Angeles and Stuttgart symphony orchestras.
ROBERTO DANI – drums (ITALY)

Roberto Dani is one of the most creative and in-demand European drummers, having recorded 6 albums as a leader and collaborated on more than 60 albums. He has toured and recorded with musicians like Dave Liebman, Louis Sclavis, Al di Meola, Michel Godard, Kenny Wheeler, Vincent Courtois, Ralph Alessi, Lee Konitz, Tim Berne, Ben Monder, Ravi Coltrane, Stefano Battaglia, Hal Crook, Mika Pohjola, George Garzone, Luciano Biondini, Norma Winstone, Drew Gress, Mick Goodrick, Erik Friedlander, and others.
