Hindi Zahra
Five years ago Hindi Zahra (the surname comes first), a young Moroccan French musician of Berber heritage, caught the attention of the music industry when the Blue Note label released her debut album, Handmade. Several years in the making at her Paris home, and driven by the huge hit ‘Beautiful Tango’, this youthful anthology brought Zahra worldwide fame. Druga Godba heard the call and engaged the services of a singer whose voice is, quite simply, among the very finest ever heard at the festival. She now returns, something of a festival darling like the great Cesaria Evora before her, with an extensive tour to accompany the new single ‘Any Story’ and a new album, Homeland, which is still tightly under wraps. The music world needs Hindi Zahra, the finished article in a world of provisional, throwaway pop, more than it cares to admit. After a brief break from music, which saw her appear in Fatih Akin’s film The Cut, she’s back, raising feverish expectation about the new album and this live performance. We can’t wait for May.

Tune-Yards
In 2011 Merrill Garbus, founder and frontwoman of Tune-Yards, put the cat among the pigeons with her second album Whokill, an offbeat masterpiece whose wondrous track ‘Bizness’ (check out the video) placed the band firmly within that strain of American popular music tradition that refuses the obvious. Tune-Yards are equally at home with worldbeat, indie pop, Afrobeat and freak folk, which makes for a wild and heady mix, but one that’s been transformed in the latest album, Nikki Nack, into a creatively organised circus of vocals, ukulele and bass. A beautiful fit with the exceptional talents on show at this year’s Druga Godba. In collaboration ŠKUC BUBA.
